The Business Journal of Milwaukee: Building boom creates worker shortage

The $5 billion of power plant, hospital, and office construction planned over the next several years is to blame for the recent concern of worker shortages. The problem is that too many new projects are occurring at the same time. Most notable projects are the Marquette Interchange project, the coal power plant being built in Oak Creek, Manpower's headquarters along the Milwaukee River in downtown Milwaukee, Harley Davidson Museum located in the Menomonee River Valley, Columbia-St. Mary's expansion located on Milwaukee's Eastside, along with several smaller mixed-use condominiums and hotel projects. One obvious solution to this shortage is for contractors and union groups to recruit more young, talented workers to fill these vacancies. Pete Millard, a writer for The Business Journal of Milwaukee has more to say about this problem. Click here to read the entire article>>>
