City of Milwaukee - News Release: Landmark Milwaukee plaza to feature bamboo grove

The Erie Street Plaza, located at the entrance of Milwaukee's Harbor, is a public plaza that would link the Milwaukee Riverwalk with a walkway along Lake Michigan. The plaza will feature a mix of industrial design and native plantings. The plans call for illuminated fiberglass benches surrounded by bamboo trees. The design of the plaza calls for a sustainable garden - keeping storm water on-site. The plaza is expected to stimulate additional development within the Third Ward neighborhood association. Construction of the Erie Street Plaza is expected to begin Summer 2006. Andrea Rowe, Communications Manager of the City of Milwaukee, provides additional detail about the Erie Street Plaza.
