JSOnline.Com: City panel endorses electric bus system: $300 million Milwaukee Connector project draws speakers both for and against
The Milwaukee Connector is one step closer to becoming reality. This transit system has been endorsed by the Common Council, Mayor Tom Barrett, business leaders, downtown neighborhood organizations, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), and the bus drivers union. Supporters argue that a new, efficient system is needed to improve transportation and attract economic development. Challengers, such as Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, suggest that the Milwaukee Connector would reduce service by eliminating existing bus lines, using fewer bus stops, and requiring riders to transfer between buses and the Connector.The Milwaukee Connector would link downtown attractions with surrounding neighborhoods, UWM, and Miller Park.
